In Germany, mobile communications has developed from a luxury product to a product of everyday use within a mere 10 to 15 years. With a population of 82 million, more than 100 million mobile communications connections have been registered in Germany since April 2008, according to the Federal Association of the Information Economy, Telecommunications and New Media, BITKOM (Bundesverband Informationswirtschaft, Telekommunikation und Neue Medien).
Statistically speaking, every fifth German owns two mobile phones or mobile communications cards. And, the majority of the population now has access to mobile communications - regardless of the age or income. However, in a few exceptional cases access may nonetheless be limited by geographic conditions, costs or physical constitution. We therefore do our best to close this so-called »digital divide« as far as possible. By offering particularly user-friendly mobile phones such as the simple mobile phone 212 by Motorola with large keys and optimum readability, we help to make access to mobile communications as easy as possible for people with special needs or low budgets. This also applies to the Internet: we are continuously working on expanding our broadband coverage in Germany and promote wireless and low-price access to the global mobile network with attractive offers.
