In good hands with O2

Markus Haas, O2 Data Privacy Protection Manager
»O2 has incorporated data privacy protection in its business principles since 2003 and always taken the issue very seriously. In 2008, we were able to encourage 90 percent of our employees to complete the so-called online data privacy protection training. The online data privacy protection training is to ensure that employees feel comfortable when they deal with data and know which data is sensitive. In view of external requirements, the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information audited O2 in 2008 and raised no objections about our data privacy protection program.«
We from O2 take data privacy protection very seriously. That is why we have made data privacy protection an integral part of our business principles - uncompromisingly so. We aim to avoid the mistakes of the past which have occurred time and again in Germany. To continue developing and growing, we need the trust of the people with whom and for whom we work.

We treat all information received from our customers in the course of contract processing with the utmost responsibility. The same applies to the protection of the telephone conversations, data transfers and virtual communication via our networks - via mobile communications or via the Internet. We strictly abide by all relevant legal provisions. This was confirmed to us from official sources:

In 2008, the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (Bundesbeauftragter für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit - BfDI) conducted an official data privacy protection audit of Telefónica O2 Germany. The final audit report was submitted and the final remarks of this report indicate that no formal complaints will be raised and that Telefónica O2 Germany successfully completed the audit.

Dialog on data privacy protection

Data privacy protection was also a big issue on 16 December 2008, at our monthly »Blue Hour« conference. On that occasion, 36 participants, among them seven members of the German Bundestag, discussed the issue of data privacy protection at O2's capital representative office in Berlin. The topics of discussion also included the abolition of the list privilege which limits the distribution of addressed advertising. Another issue were the measures taken by O2 to ensure data privacy protection.

The »Blue Hour« conferences promote the dialog and exchange with the political network in Berlin and focus on a different main topic every month.
