Our parent company Telefónica S.A. ranks among the leading telecommunications providers worldwide. The company has a customer base of 265 million in 25 countries in Europe and Latin America with a workforce numbering more than 250,000 employees. Telefónica generates more than 60 percent of the company's sales outside Spain. Telefónica is one of the world's biggest companies and is number 3 in the sector measured by market capitalisation (status on 31 December 2009). Sustainable company management
The company holds a leading position in the area of sustainability. Since September 2009, Telefónica S.A. has been the best company in the sector listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI). The DJSI is the world's most important sustainability index in the financial sector. Telefónica is 28 percent above the sector average with 86 out of 100 possible points (2008: 81.4 points). Telefónica achieved best practice status in seven core areas: risk and crisis management, supplier standards, elimination of the digital divide, effect of telecommunications services in communities where the group is active, brand formation, code of conduct and anti-corruption guidelines, and corporate citizenship. In 2002 Telefónica was listed in the DJSI for the first time.
Telefónica Europe
Telefónica O2 Germany is part of Telefónica Europe plc within Telefónica S.A. The group supplies more than 49.2 million customers in Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Slovakia, and the Czech Republic with integrated mobile phone, landline and broadband Internet services. The provider Manx Telecom (Isle of Man) is also part of the company. Telefónica Europe has a number of joint ventures and holds a 50 percent stake in Tesco Mobile in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and Tchibo Mobilfunk in Germany.
