Motivated and satisfied employees

We rank among the top companies for employee satisfaction in the group of Telefónica-Europe subsidiaries. We interpret this as confirmation for our diverse packages and we are working hard to consolidate our position as one of the most popular employees.
Our measures for combining career and family, for promoting and integrating our employees and for competitive remuneration structures enhance the satisfaction of our employees and reinforce their loyalty to our company over the long term. Success is expressed in a low fluctuation rate of 5.7 percent.

The People Promise corporate programme was introduced at the end of 2007 in order to enhance employee satisfaction. This programme developed an array of measures geared to offering employees a working environment based on motivating and performance-enhancing cooperation. Our aim with this programme is to create a balance between our expectations for the performance of employees and their expectations of the company. People Promise is launching a European programme to create a uniform Employee Experience at Telefónica in 2010. The focus of this initiative is on the Customer Experience - because our employee's satisfaction is the platform for satisfied customers and is therefore a key element in our corporate success.
First place for Telefónica O2 Germany as best employer
2005 saw us taking part in an independent ranking assessed by the "Great Place to Work"® Institute for the first time. After taking third place in the category "Companies from 5,000 employees" in 2009, we achieved 1st place in 2010 - this was the first time this ranking had been obtained by a telecommunications company in this assessment. Telefónica O2 Germany scored particularly well in the survey of employees evaluating their satisfaction in the workplace: 97 percent of employees feel that they are treated fairly, 89 percent are proud of O2. The conclusion of the study carried out by the Great Place to Work Institute Germany reflects these figures: "O2 receives this year's award as 'Germany's best employer' for outstanding quality in the relationship between management and employees'".
Measuring employee satisfaction
The Telefónica Group uses the annual international employee survey entitled Reflect to assess how satisfied the employees of the surveyed subsidiary companies are with their situation in the work environment. In 2009, 84 percent of our workforce took part in the survey, four percent less than in 2008. Nevertheless, the result strengthened our confidence in the satisfaction of our employees. An index rating of 82 out of 100 points - compared with 76 in the previous year - further improved our position. This meant that we achieved the best result that had ever been achieved in the context of Reflect. A comparison of European countries therefore ranks us once again in first place. A key element in this improvement was the introduction of the "People Promise" project involving an array of measures including the launch of 360° feedback and the new competence management. A new Intranet-based planning tool implemented individually by each team is helping to develop measures designed to further enhance employee satisfaction.
