We have our environmental management system audited by external experts. They provided confirmation of our compliance with the ISO 14001 international environmental management standard for the fifth time in 2009.
Since 2004, we have had our environmental management system audited on a regular basis. The independent experts from international certification company TÜV Rheinland (German Technical Inspectorate) audit all the measures we take. They base their audit on the guidelines defined in the ISO 14001 global environmental management standard. In 2009, we renewed our ISO 14001 certification - in the same way as the previous years.
A defined proportion of employees and managers from the different sites are included in conformity with the specifications. The objective of the audit is to review the relevant processes and the effectiveness of the environmental management system.
Certification also covers the activities of our former fellow companies and subsidiaries, although they were no longer involved in the actual audit. The business activity of our subsidiary Fonic GmbH is based entirely on our infrastructure. We integrated our fellow company Telefónica Germany in 2090. The company has therefore also received certification in conformity with ISO 14001.

Alongside ISO certification, we are making use of additional opportunities to secure external assessment of our environmental management system. All key indicators relevant to the environment that we report to our parent company in the context of environmental reporting are reviewed every year by an auditing company.1) These external audits confirm our commitment and they give us ideas on how we can make additional improvements.
