Telefónica provides rapid SHDSL.bis

-Increases speed to up to 5.7 Mbit per second
-Wholesale customers can build attractive products on it
-Available almost everywhere in Germany from October 2009
MUNICH. Telefónica is expanding its broadband offer for the wholesale business with SHDSL.bis. From October 2009, up to 5.7 Megabit per second will be available on a two-core access line (TAL). The SHDSL.bis standard enables higher symmetric transmission bandwidths and meets the requirements of increasing broadband demand. The new bandwidth is provided to Telefónica's partners within the entire area where ADSL2+ is available. By the end of 2009, the region will cover almost 70 percent of all German households. As a result, Telefónica owns the largest broadband infrastructure after Deutsche Telekom in Germany.
The broadband access service SHDSL.bis offers symmetric bandwidth and enables identical upload and download speeds. Partners obtain access to the data network of Telefónica across Germany. The customers of wholesale providers will get access to the worldwide network of Telefónica S.A via the network. "Based on the new bandwidths reached via SHDSL.bis we offer our wholesale partners another attractive product", says Johannes Pruchnow, Managing Director Business & Wholesale Services, Telefónica O2 Germany. "The flexible solution adequately meets increased data transmission requirements in the business segment. Our partners are thus in a position to offer attractive products. Next year, we will be able to offer speeds of up to 22.8 Mbit/s." The speeds are achieved through line bonding via up to four copper lines. From 2010, the following bandwidths will be available: SHDSL.bis (single line) with up to 5.7 Mbit/s, SHDSL.bis bonding (4-line) with up to 11.4 Mbit/s and SHDSL.bis bonding (8-line) with up to 22.8 Mbit/s in upload and download direction, respectively. Telefónica O2 Germany continues to expand its business customer segment with this offer and bundles its business-to-business activities as well as the DSL wholesale business. The new organization drives the strategy of integrated telecommunications. It is supported by the integration of the two network fields of mobile telecommunications and fixed network.
