Telefónica Germany partners with Lang Lang to find tomorrow's piano superstar

MUNICH. Teléfonica Germany is offering a special kind of musical experience in the O2 World Berlin on 15 June. The telecommunications company is joining Lang Lang in celebrating his 30th birthday. Also live on stage is legendary jazz pianist Herbie Hancock. As a highlight, Telefónica is organising an initiative that will provide 50 young pianists from 13 countries the opportunity to share the stage with the Chinese star pianist. Lang Lang is a fervent supporter of musical education for children. The joing initiative with Telefónica Germany is to discover new talent among young musicians aged between 7 and 14. They will be coming from countries where Telefónica is represented, including Spain, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, UK, Ireland, Czech Republic, Peru, Costa Rica and Ecuador. Two talented youngsters come from Germany. Young virtuosos can apply starting now via To enter, aspiring musicians need to submit a video recording of a performance and upload it to the competition website, before 29 April. A prominent jury and Lang Lang himself will decide who gets to be there. The winners of the competition will have the opportunity to share the stage with Lang Lang along side other young pianists from all over the world in this special concert, performing Tschaikowsky's piano concerto No 1 and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. The accompanying orchestra will be the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchester conducted by Jahja Ling.
