The Think Big summer hit with Shaggy and Jahcoustix

MUNICH/Germany. An idea can become really big, as seen in the case of the song "World Citizen" by musician Jahcoustix featuring reggae star Shaggy. The song supports the World Citizen project, which was founded by three guys from Berlin to promote more tolerance. They receive support from the Think Big youth programme of Telefónica Germany and the German Children and Youth Foundation. The single is set to hit stores tomorrow. With every purchase, a donation will be made to social youth projects.
Everything started with an idea of Hans, Baran and Salahdin, three young guys from Berlin-Kreuzberg. They were tired of being asked about their ethnic heritage and decided to start the project "World Citizen". The goal was to reduce prejudices and to bring cultures together. They wanted their initiative to turn into something big! For this reason they applied to Think Big. First, they were given 400 Euro and than a professional campaign, so that by this good example other young people could be encouraged to become active. German musician Jahcoustix thought the "World Citizen"-idea was so great that he decided to write a song about it. What's more, he was also able to get the world-famous reggae star Shaggy on board. They now want to storm the charts with their single and help other young people: with every purchase, a donation will be made to social youth projects in the Think Big context.
"The 'World Citizen' song makes a statement about what young people can achieve," says René Schuster, CEO of Telefónica Germany. "We believe in the ideas of young people. That is why we are supporting them with Think Big to realise their own projects with the help of digital media." The song and music video are available digitally at www.o2thinkbig.de. This site can be used by anyone between the ages of 14 and 25 to submit their ideas if they want to start a project. They receive 400 euros and advice from a local partner. Since 2010, the Federal Minister of Family Affairs, Kristina Schröder has been supporting the Think Big youth programme of Telefónica Germany and the German Children and Youth Foundation.
"In our society there is often not enough faith in the abilities of young people, and that's a shame. I think the Think Big programme is great because it helps young people like the 'World Citizens' to turn their ideas into something big. With the song I want to help these guys, but also encourage other young people to believe in themselves. Think big and get started!" says Jahcoustix.
Think Big is a social programme sponsored by Telefónica Europe that supports young people in those markets where the company is active through its O2 product brand. Think Big started in Germany in 2010 in partnership with the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) and with the support of Federal Minister of Family Affairs Kristina Schröder and rapper Kool Savas. Under the motto "Think big, act now" Think Big 2012 is supporting the involvement of young people. It was developed in collaboration with the Fundación Telefónica and builds on the latter's globally recognised expertise in social and cultural issues. Many Telefónica employees have already taken part in the trust's Proniño programme, which supports schooling and training for more than 163,000 children in South America.
