Second project fair for young people: Shaping the future with Think Big
|120 young people came to Munich from 19 to 21 October for the Think Big project fair with the goal of further qualification|
|10 additional Think Big projects are receiving a support of 1,000 euros to make their ideas even greater|
|Think Big pro project initiators demonstrated on location how they want to professionalise their commitment|
Through a project café, various workshops, including an ideas workshop, and talks, 14- to 25-year-olds throughout Germany gave their creativity free rein and together considered what they can lend their support to in their local area. "The energy and enthusiasm of the project initiators is impressive and shows how much potential young people have," says Claudia von Bothmer, Head of Corporate Responsibility at Telefónica in Germany. "We are delighted that the project fair marked the start of another round of ten projects that are going one step further with an additional support of 1,000 euros and are establishing their project even more comprehensively." Subjects range from school television to a recycling project as well as contact with old people.
Just how big an idea can become was demonstrated by the project initiators of "Wo wird gekickt?" and "NurDU", among others. In the former, the amateur footballers were often frustrated because playing fields were busy or there were no other players around. They have found a solution to this problem in their Internet platform www.wo-wird-gekickt.de. Here, people wanting a kick-around can enter playing fields and arrange to meet up.
The team initially received 400 euros in financial support and specialist advice from Think Big at the start of 2012. It was then selected as one of the first ten 1,000-euro projects at the first project fair in Berlin in June and now wants to professionalise its commitment in the new programme module Think Big pro. As well as 5,000 euros, the project initiators are given a workspace in the Berlin-based social impact lab, a co-working space for social entrepreneurs, along with coaching from professionals. The initiators of "NurDu" also started with 400 euros and are now developing their magazine, which informs young people in Berlin with a migrant background about youth projects, even further. To date, around 20,000 young people have participated in Think Big and realised more than 1,000 projects. Think Big started in 2010 with the support of Federal Minister of Family Affairs Kristina Schröder and rapper Kool Savas. Under the motto "Think big, act now" Think Big is also supporting the involvement of young people in 2012. Think Big pro is being realised in cooperation with iq consult initially in Berlin.
