CR Report Available as Audio Versionfor the First Time: Focus on Digital Integration at O2

MUNICH. Media skills for children and young people, commitment for its own employees as well as increased efforts to make the opportunities of telecommunication available to people, thereby making their life easier - these aspects are in the focus of the social activities of Telefónica O2 Germany. At www.o2engagiert-fuer-morgen.de, everyone who is interested can read about O2's contributions during the past year to society and the world of tomorrow. The Corporate Responsibility Report 2008, which is exclusively published online, contains a detailed description of the company's activities in this field. This also includes that O2 minimizes negative impacts of its business on the environment and on society. For the first time, the report is also available in the English language and as an audio version for visually impaired people and people with reading difficulties.
In 2008, O2 organized media competence training for over 7,000 young people and spent more than 450,000 euros on non-commercial projects. The share of online invoices to control the paper consumption increased from 31 (2007) to 43 per cent (2008). In the field of employee satisfaction, the company achieved 79 out of 100 possible points (2007: 73), and the investment per employee for advanced training in 2008 rose by 18 per cent over the previous year. The independent auditors of Ernst & Young have verified all numbers of the new Corporate Responsibility Report again this year. "As a provider of advanced telecommunications - one of the big drivers of economic and social growth worldwide -, O2 is always close to current topics and challenges," says René Schuster, CEO of Telefónica O2 Germany. "Being a part of our corporate strategy, the orientation of our company along the principles of sustainability is continuously evolving in the dialog with our stakeholders. After all, we can only be successful in the market on the long run if we understand the needs of our customers, of our employees and of society at an early stage and act accordingly." Of particular interest to O2 is the advancement of media competence in children and young people. This also implies to familiarize young people with new technologies and also to help them recognize possible risks. The company also supports technical safeguards for the protection of minors. In addition, O2 will enable disadvantaged people through innovative products and low-cost offers to gain access to mobile phones and the Internet. The third focal area is the targeted development of employees, but also of their social commitment for society at the respective locations of the company. Efforts to minimize any negative impact of O2's business activities on the environment and on society complete the Corporate Responsibility strategy. Transparency plays an important role in all these efforts. O2 communicates on a regular basis what has been achieved in the field of sustainability, but also in which areas there is still room for improvement. O2 started last year to publish its current Corporate Responsibility Report at its online portal www.o2engagiert-fuer-morgen.de. This avoids the unnecessary consumption of paper and protects the environment. This information path offers a number of benefits for the interested public: Everybody can access the information free of charge and can easily navigate to the desired information.
