HTC and O2 host competition for newcomer bands on Myspace

MUNICH. After the great success of this summer's Uni Band Battle, the event is now entering a new round. HTC and Telefónica O2 Germany, along with Myspace, are again looking for the best student bands in Germany. From now on interested groups can apply online. The fans will decide on the winner by voting on Myspace or via the mobile site for their favourite band. The winners will perform on 3 February along with Polarkreis 18 in front of a large audience during an exclusive concert in Mannheim.
Participation in the competition will be on Myspace, the social media platform that is very popular among the music scene. Musicians can sign up at www.Myspace.com/unibandbattle simply by uploading a song for consideration to their band profile page. Any group can take part, as long as at least one member is a student. All participants will first be presented in an online gallery. There, as a first step, they will be rated by a prominent jury of experts: Polarkreis 18. The German band will make a preliminary selection by choosing 10 finalists. The subsequent voting phase will involve convincing the general public of their abilities. All fans are called on to vote for their favourite band directly at Uni Band Battle's main Myspace profile. Alternatively, votes can also be submitted via Facebook or a mobile site. Anyone who votes will be entered in a drawing for VIP tickets to the final concert. During the "election campaign" the bands will also have the chance to earn additional points by fulfilling certain tasks and presenting themselves to the community by uploading videos and photos. The winners of the competition will appear on stage with Polarkreis 18 at a final concert on 3 February at Capitol in Mannheim where they get the change to learn from the best. Polarkreis 18 climbed to the very top with their album "The Colour of Snow" two years ago. Their single "Allein Allein" (Alone Alone) stayed on the charts for 40 weeks. Now the six guys from Dresden are paying tribute to winter with their latest album "Frei" (Free), which will come out on 26 November. Polarkreis 18's concert, as part of the Uni Band Battle, will be one of the few occasions to see the band perform live before the official start of their tour at the end of March 2011. The Uni Band Battle is being held for the second time. A total of 677 bands participated in the initial round of the competition in June. Bedford Falls, a band from Bonn, emerged the winners, and they were allowed to perform as a support band for Revolverheld.
Uni Band Battle is presented by O2 and HTC and held in connection with Myspace. The Myspace profile is the centre of attention for the project. The Uni Band Battle will be advertised for two months by Social Media Marketing with editorial features and an individually-designed integration with the widest range of placements on Myspace. In addition to promotional activities on Myspace, information about the campaign will also be disseminated on StudiVZ, Facebook and YouTube and promoted via www.o2.de and www.htc.com/de. O2 campus ambassadors at universities throughout Germany will draw attention to the campaign. Tickets for the concert of Polarkreis 18 and the winner band at 3 February 2011 won't be available for sale but drawn exclusively via the O2 Crew O2 event platform www.o2crew.de.
