ARIS study for Telefónica Deutschland: companies work more efficiently with mobile technologies

MUNICH. Almost two-thirds of companies in Germany gain a measurable benefit from the use of mobile technologies. This was revealed by a new survey on behalf of Telefónica Deutschland. It proves that companies see huge advantages with regard to efficiency, costs and productivity. For employees, mobile communication leads to less pressure, more flexibility and an improved working environment.

For the study "Digitale Revolution - Zukunft der Arbeit" ("Digital Revolution - Future of Work"), the media, market and social research company ARIS Umfrageforschung questioned 280 companies from all sectors with more than 100 employees and turnover of at least five million euros. The added value is clear to see: 65 per cent of German companies save on costs because they can make their business processes more efficient with mobile technologies, and 61 per cent thereby save time on work processes. 60 per cent are able to improve the results of their work and service quality. "The digitalisation of society is advancing at a rapid pace," says René Schuster, CEO of Telefónica Deutschland. "Telefónica is an important driver of this development. Our insights show that companies in particular see mobile technologies as worthwhile investments with actual, measurable added value". But it doesn't just pay off for companies: in contrast to the current discussion about supposed burnout due to mobile availability, the majority of employees are convinced that their work is made easier. Almost two-thirds (62 per cent) state that their working environment and their job have improved through the use of mobile technologies. 73 per cent of employees save time and 68 per cent feel more flexible. Almost two-thirds (63 per cent) get necessary information more quickly and more than half (52 per cent) can work more efficiently. One possible reason for this positive perception: 66 per cent of employees feel well or very well prepared for the use of mobile technologies by their employer. "The survey shows that the advantages of mobile technologies not only benefit the companies but also the employees," says René Schuster. "Work processes and communications get faster, more efficient and flexible, so that both sides benefit. The employees' positive answers are a strong indication that the future of work is not just digital, but that it also offers additional value for everyone." Employees and decision makers were surveyed for the study in October 2012. At management level, managing directors, CEOs, CIOs and IT heads provided their assessments. The CEO of Telefónica Deutschland, René Schuster, is presenting the results today in Berlin at the ZEIT conference with the same name, "Digitale Revolution - Zukunft der Arbeit".
