As a partner of Messe München, Telefónica Deutschland / O2 is setting up comprehensive 5G high-performance mobile communications coverage at the trade fair grounds and for the adjacent A94 motorway. Just in time for the IAA MOBILITY from 7-12 September in Munich, the trade fair in the Bavarian capital is thus also launching into the 5G era. "As one of the key drivers of digitalisation in Germany, we are proud to provide a state-of-the-art 5G network for Messe München and IAA MOBILITY," says Markus Haas, CEO of Telefónica Deutschland / O2. "Based on our network infrastructure, exhibitors at the new IAA MOBILITY will showcase what the 5G mobile communications standard can do in vehicle production, connected driving and onboard entertainment. Messe München will remain a showcase for innovation after IAA Mobility and demonstrate the benefits of 5G for leading industries."
Telefónica Deutschland / O2 is installing around around 40 kilometres of high-frequency cables in the 18 exhibition halls, three multi-storey car parks and three entrance halls.
In total, Telefónica Deutschland / O2 is installing around 150 5G antennas and laying around 40 kilometres of high-frequency cables in the 18 exhibition halls, three multi-storey car parks and three entrance halls. In addition, the approximately 12-kilometre-long "Blue Lane", the "environmental lane" of the A94 for emission-free vehicles, will also receive seamless 5G coverage. This will enable the passengers of shuttle buses between the Feldkirchen-West and Leuchtenbergring junctions to enjoy digital entertainment via virtual reality glasses during their journey, for example. In addition, 5G coverage enables IAA MOBILITY exhibitors to showcase innovative applications such as connected driving over longer distances.

"With Telefónica / O2, we have a reliable partner at our side who will deliver high-quality 5G coverage for our entire exhibition grounds. This in turn is an important criterion for our exhibitors and a basic prerequisite for the sustainable success of this year's IAA MOBILITY, which will be held for the first time with a new concept at the Munich exhibition centre and in the city of Munich," expresses Klaus Dittrich, Chairman and CEO of Messe München.

5G enables time-critical applications in real time for the first time

O2 has been massively expanding the 5G network in Germany since October 2020, including in Munich and the surrounding area. The company now supplies more than 80 cities with 5G via the powerful 3.6 GHz frequency with over 2,000 antennas. Telefónica Deutschland / O2 will cover 30 percent of the population nationwide with 5G by the end of the year, 50 percent by the end of 2022 and the entire population by the end of 2025.
