connect network test 2009: O2 is now a first division player

MUNICH. Telefónica O2 Germany is the shooting star of this year's connect network test 2009. Thanks to a clear leap forward the company is now one of the leaders in the industry. The test confirms the high quality of telephony and the mobile internet of the German O2 mobile network.
This year O2 came out on top in several important categories. The company's results in mobile internet, also in rural areas, were particularly good. Above all, the performance of O2 in the categories data upload and download was excellent. O2 has clearly expanded its fast data network widely, connect praised. O2 has even become an interesting alternative for business people who travel a lot. For urban phone calls O2 ranked first together with the test winner. "We are exceptionally pleased with the test result", said Andrea Folgueiras, CTO Telefónica O2 Germany. "Although our network expansion will only be completed at the end of the year, we are already up front with the leaders. We will of course not simply rest on our success. In the coming year we will focus on developing our fast mobile data network consistently further." The trade magazine "connect" performs the large network test annually. On a round trip of Germany phone calls, downloads from web sites and uploading and downloading of e-mails and data files using mobile phones and laptops are measured in all of the major mobile networks. The route includes rural areas and conurbations. To ensure as realistic an evaluation as possible measurements are performed both out of doors and inside. The modern mobile network of O2 Today O2 reaches almost 100 percent of the population with its own network. The UMTS network is fully HSDPA (up to 7.2 MBit/s) and HSUPA (up to 2.0 MBit/s) enabled. In recent years, O2 has invested more than EUR 3.5 billion in its network infrastructure.
