MUNICH. Telefónica O2 Germany is strengthening its management board for the planned integration of HanseNet and new responsibilities set by the Telefónica group. Lutz Schüler, Managing Director Marketing & Sales, will assume responsibility as Managing Director at Telefónica O2 Germany for the in-tegration of HanseNet after approval by the competition authorities. René Schuster, CEO of Telefónica O2 Germany, will temporarily assume Lutz Schüler's previous role as Managing Director Marketing & Sales.
"His long experience as O2 Managing Director Marketing & Sales and his record in the industry make Lutz Schüler the ideal person to ensure the successful integration of HanseNet into the Telefónica family", says Schuster. Following the signing of con-tract between Telefónica and Telecom Italia at the beginning of December, the com-petition authorities are currently reviewing the acquisition. The decision is expected during the first quarter of 2010. Joachim Kugoth will be appointed to the management board of Telefónica O2 Ger-many as the new Managing Director Human Resources. Effective 1 February 2010, Robert Simmeth, who previously worked as CEO of DB Systel and on other posi-tions, will act as the new Managing Director Service Technology and Chief Informa-tion Officer (CIO). His predecessor Carsten Wreth will move to the top management of the Telefónica group and assume the position as CEO Telefónica Global Services. The new corporation with head office in Munich and almost 100 employees will man-age the global procurement and roaming services of the Telefónica group. "The bun-dling of the global procurement services in Munich and the appointment of a CEO from among our ranks underlines the significance of the German market for Telefóni-ca", Schuster emphasized. There will also be a change in the top brand management: Antonio Botas who has been Managing Director Strategy, Brand Management & Customer Experience, will be appointed Director Coordination International Global Marketing of the Telefónica group and be responsible for the international marketing activities of the group at the corporate headquarters in Madrid. He will be succeeded by Jens Prautzsch as Man-aging Director Strategy, Brand Management and Customer Experience who has pre-viously been responsible for Strategy and New Business Development.
