Telefónica will become corporate name in Germany

MUNICH. Telefónica O2 Germany is getting a new name as of 1 April 2011. Following completion of the integration of fixed network service provider HanseNet, the company will operate under the name of Telefónica Germany. The company bearing the familiar O2 brand has already been part of the global Telefónica Group, which employs more than 264,000 people in 26 countries, since 2006.
Nothing will change for the company's customers. O2 will still remain the powerful brand for all products and services in both the private and the business customer sectors. Only the business with major multinationals will in future be conducted under the name Telefónica. Over the course of this year the new corporate name will be introduced in all the countries making up Telefónica Europe. Germany is the first country in the group to make the changeover. All information will be available at as of April, 1st.
Telefónica O2 Germany GmbH & Co. OHG belongs to Telefónica Europe and is part of the Spanish telecommunication group Telefónica S.A. The Company offers its German private and business customers postpaid and prepaid mobile telecom products as well as innovative mobile data services based on the GPRS and UMTS technologies. In addition, the integrated communications provider also offers DSL fixed network telephony and high-speed internet. Telefónica Europe has more than 56 million mobile and fixed network customers in Great Britain, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Germany. According to a network test by "connect" magazine (edition 12/10), O2 is top of the list when it comes to reliable file downloads and champion in the telephony category. In the overall result O2 is on second position.
