-LTE products for consumers and small businesses
MUNICH. Telefónica Germany starts marketing LTE. Two products will hit the market on 1 July 2011 that give private customers and small businesses access to the new mobile broadband. With the two products - both marketed under the name 'O2 LTE für Zuhause' - rural areas will get fast and stable Internet access at last. From early June the first rural communities can order their mobile Internet connection. Other rural areas will be connected to the new broadband technology over the following weeks.

"O2 LTE für Zuhause" starts on July 1st, 2011

'O2 LTE für Zuhause' is the perfect solution for all those white spots that currently have no broadband coverage. Users can surf the net with speeds of up to 7.2 megabytes per second. The new services will cost only 29.90 Euros per month for the first six months and after that will revert to the regular 'O2 LTE für Zuhause' rate of 39.90 Euros per month.
"Now it starts: With 'O2 LTE für Zuhause' rural areas will finally have fast Internet access as well," says René Schuster, CEO Telefónica Germany. "Video streaming, fast downloads and online computer games are no longer an issue in rural areas." Private customers have a 10 gigabytes monthly usage allowance at full speed, then data transfer reverts to the UMTS speed of 384 kilobytes per second, which is similar to so-called DSL Light products. 'O2 LTE für Zuhause' for freelancers, self-employed and small businesses includes a high-speed usage of up to 12 gigabytes per month. All other features are the same for both products. A LTE wireless router is available from Telefónica Germany for 49.90 Euros. The connection fee is 49.90 Euros, with a 24-month contract. Each customer can test the new broadband at home for a period of 30 days. During this period they can cancel at any time - and get their money back for the WLAN router. Starting 1 July 2011 'O2 LTE für Zuhause' is available in several rural communities, including Oberreichenbach in the Black Forest, Abtsteinach/Bergstraße ("The Gateway to the Überwald") or Zscherben in Saxony-Anhalt. For this, Telefónica Germany uses its far-reaching 800 megahertz frequencies, acquired at the license auction last year. With this, all 800 megahertz pilot networks will soon become part of the regular LTE service. Further communities, such as Wanzleben and Alsleben in Saxony-Anhalt, will get their LTE access as early as mid-July.
