Touch&Travel from O2: Bus and Rail Tickets for Smartphones

MUNICH. As of 1 March O2 customers can take advantage of Touch&Travel using a smartphone app. The benefits: they can purchase tickets on their mobile, change their travel route spontaneously and pay with ease by direct debit.
The Touch&Travel app for Android, iOS and Symbian Anna will enable O2 customers to organise bus and train journeys with ease on their smartphone. Because Location Based Services are integrated, travellers remain flexible at all times. The system recognizes the route travelled by radio signals. So travel routes changed spontaneously are recognised automatically and the fare calculated accordingly. O2 customers can use this service free of charge.

"The link-up to the Touch&Travel programme makes everyday life easier for our customers." Once registered with Touch&Travel, customers load the app with ease onto their smartphones. The Location Based Services are activated with ease at O2 via SMS. Before starting the journey the user opens the app and logs on at the railway station or bus stop. The customer has three options for this: establish his position automatically by GPS on his mobile, scan a barcode at the Touch&Travel contact point or enter the contact point number in the app.
The ticket is checked by means of a QR code on the mobile telephone. This replaces the traditional ticket and is scanned in during the journey by the ticket inspector. When the traveller logs off at his destination via the app, the actual itinerary travelled is worked out. After the journey the calculated fare is displayed and then simply debited once a month by direct debit. A special feature: the traveller can use the app at any time during his journey to check the distance travelled and the costs. Besides Deutsche Bahn this service is also offered by the Rhine-Main Transport Association (RMV), the BVG, ViP and ODEG in the Berlin Brandenburg Transport Association (VBB). So in addition to the entire DB inter-urban transport system, customers can also use public transport in Frankfurt/Main, Berlin and Potsdam.
