Tony Hanway named new Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Deutschland

MUNICH. Tony Hanway has been appointed Chief Commercial Officer at Telefónica Deutschland with responsibilities for Service and Sales across Germany. Hanway will remain CEO of Telefónica Ireland until the acquisition of O2 in Ireland by Hutchison Whampoa is completed next year.
In his new position, Hanway will report directly to Telefónica Deutschland CEO René Schuster and will oversee the 1,000 O2 retail outlets across Germany, the online-retail portal, indirect sales channels, as well as all other contact points within customer service. Hanway succeeds John McGuigan, who is leaving Telefónica after six years with the Group. Hanway, 45, joined the Telefónica Group in 2005 and prior to becoming CEO of Telefónica Ireland was Consumer Director at the Group's Czech Republic business. Before his appointment as CEO in Ireland, Hanway was Director of Consumer Sales, responsible for all customer contact points - including direct and indirect retail channels - in Ireland. "Tony Hanway brings along ideal prerequisites for his new task at Telefónica in Germany," said René Schuster, Chief Executive Officer at Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG. "In cooperation with his team he is going to push forward our service and sales activities across all brands and customer segments in order to promote our ambitious goals within a dynamic market and to offer the best possible service to our customers." Telefónica is selling its stake in Telefónica Ireland to 3, the Irish subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa. The transaction is subject, among other conditions, to relevant competition approvals. Hanway will remain CEO of Telefónica Ireland until the completion of this transaction and remains dedicated to ensuring a smooth handover to the new owner.
