From April: Hamburg's government offices will phone with O2

MUNICH. From April the phone calls made by the Hamburg government offices will pass through the networks of O2. As the exclusive service provider Telefónica Germany will ensure that all the city's offices have fixed-line and mobile telephony. Telefónica Germany is also involved in switching to phone calls using the Voice over IP (VoIP) Internet protocol.
The more than 75,000 civil servants in the City of Hamburg and affiliated organisations will soon be phoning with O2. More than 100,000 devices can connect to the public phone network with the fixed-line connections provided. In addition, Telefónica will be supplying several thousand mobile phones and contracts for telephony and mobile Internet. "With our modern mobile offers and advanced fixed-network solutions, we accompany the City of Hamburg as its competent partner," says Jörg Becker, Head of Corporate Sales at Telefónica Germany. "Thus, the authorities are ideally equipped with a link to the digital future." Dataport had put out a call for bids for master agreements for fixed-network and mobile voice communications in Hamburg. Telefónica Germany was awarded the contract. As an institution under public law, Dataport is the public sector's information and communication service provider for the states of Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and Bremen, and for the tax authorities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Lower Saxony. Telefónica Germany is also supporting Dataport in the gradual migration of Hamburg local government to a next-generation network set to last. Four SIP trunks each capable of 100 megabits a second will ensure the VoIP traffic from Dataport arrives safely in the public phone network. For more information visit:
