13 October 2009:O2 launches Palm Pre
Palm Pre will initially be available exclusively from Telefónica O2 Germany. O2 offers Palm Pre with any kind of contract and in combination with the mobile phone surf flat rate.
Palm Pre is the first mobile phone based on the all-new operating system Palm webOS. The platform brings mobile applications together in an intuitive and multitasking environment. Consumers and business customers are thus able to connect to their information in useful and useable ways. Palm webOS introduces Palm Synergy for the first time. This technology delivers one single view on all information from various sources. Palm Pre impresses with its smooth, elegantly rounded and ergonomic design and a full QWERTZ keyboard which users slide out only when needed. Thanks to the design of Palm Pre the phone feels natural in the hand and is so small that it comfortably fits in every pocket. When closed, the device is ideal for phone calls, web surfing or listening to music and watching videos. When the keyboard is open, it is optimised for writing emails and text messages. With its curved slider and gesture-controlled touch screen interface Palm Pre fuses exquisite design with the revolutionary Palm webOS software for fast access to content on the device or web. René Schuster, CEO of Telefónica O2 Germany: "We operate one of the most modern mobile telecommunications networks in Europe and offer our customers a simple and transparent tariff structure. In combination with Palm Pre our customers experience top-class mobile communications. With Palm Pre the mobile internet becomes the easiest thing in the world." "There's a lot of excitement about Palm Pre in Europe as we continue to expand Palm webOS products across new carriers and countries," said Jon Rubinstein, chairman and chief executive officer, Palm, Inc. "We look forward to launching Palm Pre with O2 so users in Germany can see firsthand how Palm webOS offers a new and better smartphone experience." Full contract freedom O2 offers free choice of contract for Palm Pre in Germany. Users who want to access the web are recommended to add the mobile surf flat rate of € 10 a month. Customers can thus surf the mobile web up to a volume of 200 MB at a speed of up to 7.2 MBit/s (HSDPA). Subsequently, it is reduced to ISDN level. With the new concept O2 My Handy customers can finance Palm Pre independent of the contract at zero percent interest rate. Customers make a down payment of € 1 in the O2 shop or online at www.o2online.de and pay the remaining sum in 24 monthly rates of € 20 each. Palm Pre is available in O2 shops, online at www.o2-online.de and from all specialised trade partners of O2. The mobile phone offers data synchronisation, enables multitasking capabilities and has a full sliding keyboard, a powerful touch screen, first-class messaging applications as well as GPS, 3G and secure Wi-Fi.
