All set for the holidays: O2 cuts rates for mobile data use abroad

From April 19, 2010 the "Mobile Internet Abroad" rate will apply by default to all contractual customers in zones 1 and 21). After reaching the upper limit of 59.50 euros, no further charges will be incurred and customers can continue to surf, although data throughput will be reduced gradually. O2 sends an SMS to inform them of this. O2 is complying with the ruling approved by the European Commission in mid-2009, which guarantees consumers cost limits and warning systems from July 1, 2010 in order to ensure transparent data communication. It protects customers against unpleasant surprises when using data connections abroad.
As an alternative, O2 has launched its "Internet Day Pack EU", which gives customers 50 MB for mobile Internet use at a cost of 15 euros a day. Once this volume is used up, O2 will gradually reduce the bandwidth for the rest of the day. Another advantage of this option is that the daily charge only becomes due once 50 KB of data has been transferred. This means customers who don't surf, won't have to pay anything.
