Telefónica O2 Germany offers special promotional rate for the market launch of the mobile transcription service VerbaVoice

MUNICH. From 9 December, the mobile text-based transcription service, VerbaVoice, will be available on mobile phones and tablet PCs with the Android operating system. The service can be used throughout Germany via mobile Internet, and it offers greater flexibility to hearing-impaired people in everyday situations. Telefónica O2 Germany is offering a special mobile surfing flatrate offer to accompany the product launch.
VerbaVoice GmbH in cooperation with Telefónica O2 Germany has launched a transcription service to help the hearing-impaired to enjoy easier access to information and education. The VerbaVoice service works like this: Speech is transmitted via a microphone and the Internet to a transcriber who transcribes what he or she hears and sends the text to the user's computer via the Internet. Until now, hearing-impaired persons could only use the transcript on stationary PCs or laptops - for example, at their place of work or at school. With the market launch of the mobile application the text-based transcription service will now be available for use on the move throughout Germany. Consequently, hearing-impaired persons will have a higher degree of flexibility and independence in everyday situations, for instance during consultations or visits to the doctor. The VerbaVoice mobile app runs on all mobile phones and tablet PCs with the Android operating system, version 1.6 and higher, which is available on all of the latest O2 devices. The application can be downloaded from the Android Market and is free for O2 customers. All others pay a one-off fee of 7.99 euros for the download. In addition, a mobile Internet connection is required for the text-based transcription service. O2 is offering a special promotional rate for the market launch of the VerbaVoice mobile application: The first 500 hearing-impaired customers can sign up for Internet Pack M, O2's flat rate for mobile surfing, for 5 euros a month instead of 10 euros. The flat rate includes unlimited mobile surfing, chats and e-mails. The data volume is also unlimited, and the minimum contract period is one month. "Thanks to innovative technologies we can remove the barriers from everyday situations for people with disabilities. With VerbaVoice, some hearing-impaired young people are already being taught in integrative schools. And with the mobile App using this service becomes even more comfortable - it's a pocket-sized transcription service," explains André Krause, Managing Director of Finance at Telefónica O2 Germany, and in charge of Corporate Responsibility as part of the company's management team. Michaela Nachtrab, Managing Director of VerbaVoice GmbH adds: "Since the start of our cooperation with Telefónica O2 Germany we continuously improved VerbaVoice and with the development of the iPhone App we are already working on the next innovation." Note: When using the text-based transcription service additional costs for the connected transcriber are incurred (approximately 50-75 euros per hour). However, as a general rule, such costs are covered by carriers such as integration offices or local authorities subject to a request by the hearing-impaired person.
