Hip hop, beats and breakdance:

45 young people show off their skills to rap star Kool Savas

Munich/Mannheim. Kool Savas was thrilled. What the German rap star experienced last Saturday was truly "pro" after seeing what 45 young hip hoppers and breakdancers had to offer in the youth centre in Mannheim's Vogelstang district. Under the watchful gaze of the critical doyen, they competed against one another in battles and presented many styles that they had developed themselves. For the Think Big initiative "My neighbourhood. My idea", developed by Telefónica Germany and the Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung (German Children and Youth Foundation), it was a complete success.
As well as an audience with the king of rap, the young people involved enjoyed workshops in the categories of dance, styling, camera operating and video editing. The connecting elements were enjoyment of music as well as fun and fair competition in the exhibition for Kool Savas. The talented young people didn't experience any reservations with the rap star: last year they filmed a video clip with him for his song "Sky is the Limit" and realised their potential in their own hip hop media projects. This year they continued their involvement and passed on their knowledge and experience to all the young people taking part for the first time. Think Big offered professional support. The initiative promotes ideas from young people between the ages of 14 and 25 throughout Germany and reaches adolescents from all levels of society through themes like hip hop. "We've learnt that you have to believe in yourself - whatever happens and whatever other people say," summarises 19-year-old Sophie, participant and co-organiser of the event. "Young people just have to believe in themselves and do their own thing." Think Big is a social programme set up by Telefónica Europe. It was developed in collaboration with the Fundación Telefónica and builds on the latter's globally recognised expertise in social and cultural issues.
