Campus Party:Telefónica professionally produces young people's creative Think Big app idea

-Fifty young people from Germany, the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic have developed their ideas with the help of experts and Campuseros
-Jury chose best app of Think Big App Workshop at the Campus Party in Berlin
-Open Source-expert Jon Maddog Hall provided feedback to the project designers
MUNICH. Swapping clothes, books or bicycles within a community or donating these things to local charities rather than throwing them away - this does not only save money, it also helps other people and protects the environment. This app idea for students by three young English girls impressed the jury most at the Think Big App Workshop on 25 August at the Campus Party in Berlin. Telefónica will now produce the app professionally.
Fifty young people from the European youth programme Think Big seized the opportunity to turn their creative idea into an app at the Campus Party. Telefónica Germany organized an app workshop at the worldwide biggest festival for internet technology. From August 21 to 26 about 10,000 geeks from all over Europe came to this festival at the former airport Berlin Tempelhof. "Telefonica 02 believes that digitalization and connecting people can change society for the better. We also believe in the ideas of young people as they will be the ones writing the future," said Peter Rampling, Managing Director Marketing, Telefonica Germany. "The app workshop aimed to support lots of young people in further developing their ideas by using digital technology so they can continue their careers better prepared. We will now provide funding for the best app.
Young people from Germany, the UK, Ireland and the Czech Republic could apply beforehand with their ideas, which were intended to provide a solution for a social or ecological problem. In the workshop they got to know the entire development process of an app within 48 hours, from the idea to the prototype. They presented their prototypes to a jury in a pitch on Saturday. The jury chose the best app, which is now being produced professionally by Telefonica. The young project makers were supported by experts and participants of the Campus Party, the so called campuseros. In addition, Jon Maddog Hall provided feedback for them, one of the founders of the international Open Source Initiative. He liked the workshop so much that he spontaneously participated and coached the young people up to the pitch. "We have learned so much about the different steps on the way to creating an app, and it helped us a lot to share our thoughts with the other participants," said Lucinda Abel from the winning team. Besides the swap app, the ideas ranged from a GigFinder as personalized event planer to an app for social projects in the neighbourhood. The members of the jury were Peter Rampling from Telefónica Germany, Raul Krauthausen, founder of the social organization Sozialhelden, Ruha Reyhani, one of the founders of the start-up consultancy Second Muse, Andreas Seeger, editor in chief of the German Android Community and Jan Bergner, member of the board of Youth Bank e.V., an organization which supports social youth projects.
Think Big is a social programme sponsored by Fundación Telefónica that supports young people in those markets where the company is active through its o2 product brand. Think Big started in Germany in 2010 in partnership with the German Children and Youth Foundation (DKJS) and with the support of Federal Minister of Family Affairs Kristina Schröder and rapper Kool Savas. Under the motto "Think big, act now" Think Big 2012 is supporting the involvement of young people. It builds on the globally recognised expertise of the Fundación Telefónica in social and cultural issues.
