Over 500,000 apps:O2 customers pay via mobile phone bill in Google Play
MUNICH. As of now O2 customers of Telefónica Germany using Google Play can also make mobile payments for their apps. Purchasing is secure, convenient, requires only a few steps and is settled via the mobile phone bill or prepaid credit. Besides that, you are now able to shop there for games in this way as well.
"Mobile payment is getting more and more popular. Today many of our customers already use their smartphones to make mobile purchases and this trend is set to continue," says Michiel van Eldik, Managing Director Wholesale & Partner Management, Telefónica Germany. "The extension of our product range to include Google Play is another step to promote mobile payments."
O2 customers will be pleased. Apart from digital goods like games or virtual currencies, they can pay for applications, known as apps for short, and all other products of Google Play (formerly Android MarketTM) using their mobile phones. The product range includes over 500,000 apps and is intended for postpaid and prepaid customers. Even customers who did not buy their AndroidTM smartphones or tablets from O2 can use the new service. All they need for the purchase is a Google account.
Three steps to the desired app
After choosing an app in the store, you select the payment method "Charge O2 account." Then you pick the option "Accept & buy." After the purchase has been confirmed, you can download and use the app immediately.
If customers do not like the app, they can return it within 15 minutes after the purchase. The purchase amount is then automatically transferred back and credited to the customer.
