ChatGPT Plus for new customers O2 Telefónica brings artificial intelligence to everyday mobile communications
29.10.2025

With ChatGPT Plus, the latest GPT-5 model will be available to new O2 customers starting November 5.
Telecommunications company O2 Telefónica and AI company OpenAI are launching the nextphase of their initiative to bring AI into everyday mobile use: Starting November 4, new customers will receive six months of free access to ChatGPT Plus. This makes O2 Telefónica the first German network operator to bring the powerful AI application into the mobile communications context, opening up a new field for mobile users beyond entertainment and communication: artificial intelligence as an everyday digital companion.
In addition to streaming and social media, AI is rapidly becoming the next big digital phenomenon in everyday life for mobile customers. While media and streaming have shaped digital life in recent years, AI is now becoming an increasingly important tool that makes everyday life more productive, easier, and more creative, says Andreas Laukenmann, Chief Consumer Officer.
ChatGPT Plus provides access to the latest GPT-5 model, which enables faster response times, more accurate answers, and advanced features such as web search, file analysis, and image processing.
Andreas Laukenmann adds: Germany has now become the largest market for ChatGPT in Europe, with an enormous and steadily growing user base. This shows how AI has become a natural part of our everyday lives. At O2, we want to accelerate this process and make access to AI as easy as possible for our customers. By working with OpenAI, we are therefore taking another step toward our goal of being the most customer-friendly provider.

High demand confirms relevance in everyday life
Already at the beginning of October, O2 Telefónica took the first step by offering participants in the “Priority” benefits program of its core brand O2 three months of free access to ChatGPT Plus. This was met with great interest. With the new six-month free access, new O2 customers save 138 Euro. If they want to continue using it after the first six months, they can do so automatically.
O2 Telefónica is thus giving mobile phone customers access to premium AI for the first time and lowering the barrier to trying out new technologies in everyday life. According to Bitkom, only 8 % of people who use generative AI currently opt for paid services. With free access, O2 and OpenAI are laying the foundation for changing this trend – through direct everyday experience with the benefits of ChatGPT Plus.

Digital participation for all
O2 Telefónica and OpenAI share the common goal of strengthening digital participation and making artificial intelligence accessible to a wide audience. The integration of ChatGPT Plus into O2 offerings creates low-threshold access to modern AI technology – via a product that millions of customers already use every day.
With the new six-month ChatGPT Plus offer, O2 Telefónica is replacing the previous 150 Euro promotion that started on September 3.
