26.11.2025

O2 Telefónica achieves a record result with 937 points* in the connect network test 2025
- More than 7,000 rollout measures since the beginning of the year lead to record results in the network test
- Second place thanks to improved network quality in rural areas and along transport routes and railway lines
- O2 Telefónica network makes the biggest leap in quality of all mobile providers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland
The rankings have changed in the quality comparison of nationwide mobile networks: O2 Telefónica has achieved second place for the first time in the latest network test by trade magazine connect – just behind Deutsche Telekom and on a par with Vodafone. The O2 network achieved a record score of 937 out of a possible 1,000 points, earning a “very good” rating for the sixth time in a row.
"Digitalization is a basic need in our society. O2 Telefónica wants to ensure that people and businesses have access to a high-performance network everywhere. The latest connect test results show that the O2 network is a top choice for first-class network quality. Network expansion in Germany is a huge undertaking – and we are tackling it day after day with continuous investment and the tireless efforts of our technicians. Our goal is clear: consumers and businesses should be connected anytime, anywhere—in the city, in rural areas, and along transport routes," says Mallik Rao, Chief Technology and Enterprise Business Officer at O2 Telefónica.

Strongest improvement in the DACH region
Particularly noteworthy: O2 ranks second in two of the three key test categories – data quality (“Data”) and user experience (“Crowd”). Overall, O2 achieved the greatest improvement of all providers in the entire DACH region, with an increase of 28 points in twelve months.
Network expansion for urban and rural areas
The categories tested are highly relevant for consumers and businesses. The data measurement shows how well and how fast customers can surf the web, stream videos, or send large files. With a maximum of 480 points, it accounts for almost 50 percent of the test result. In this important discipline, O2 made a big leap forward to second place with an increase of 20 points. O2 Telefónica also ranks second in terms of user experience. The crowdsourcing-based tests evaluate real customer experiences – in cities, rural areas, and on transport routes.
“It's time to recognize the O2 network as a first-class mobile network for Germany. This is confirmed by the connect network test. O2 Telefónica has invested extensively and consistently expanded the network – with noticeable improvements in all regions of Germany,” says Mallik Rao.

connect confirms leap in quality
The connect editorial team concludes: “O2 Telefónica is consistently continuing its long-standing course of continuous improvement and shows the greatest performance increase in the German-speaking test field. This brings o2 Telefónica significantly closer to Bonn, and the Munich-based provider is now on a par with Düsseldorf for the first time. In the data and crowd disciplines, it is even ahead of Vodafone.”
Since the beginning of the year, O2 Telefónica has implemented more than 7,000 network expansion measures to improve the network experience in cities, rural areas, and along transport routes. Around 600 additional mobile phone sites have ensured that many dead spots have disappeared. Since the beginning of the year, around 2,500 new 5G sites have been installed so that even more people – especially in rural areas – can benefit from the latest standard. Almost 4,000 network upgrades ensure that all mobile phone users can surf quickly even with higher data consumption. Until the end of 2027, o2 Telefónica plans to erect more than 3,000 new mobile phone masts nationwide.
