EWE and Telefónica Deutschland are launching a strategic mobile communications partnership. In future, EWE’s mobile customers will use the Telefónica Deutschland network. EWE does not operate its own mobile network and traditionally relies on the mobile infrastructure of established partners. Under the new agreement, Telefónica Deutschland will become EWE’s strategic partner for mobile wholesale services. Only recently, both companies also announced their collaboration on the expansion of the mobile network, particularly in north-west Germany.

Customers benefit from strong 5G network coverage

By choosing Telefónica Deutschland, EWE customers benefit from Telefónica’s high-performance and widely available mobile network. The renowned test by the trade magazine connect has already awarded the network a ‘very good’ rating six times in a row and most recently ranked it second for the first time. It now provides around 99 per cent of German households with the modern 5G mobile standard. “With EWE, Telefónica Deutschland gains a strong regional wholesale partner with a significant market presence and close customer proximity. The partnership combines this regional strength with scalable mobile infrastructure and opens up new growth opportunities in both the consumer and business markets. At the same time, it demonstrates that competition in the German mobile market is working,” says Jörg Kablitz, Chief Partner & Wholesale Officer at Telefónica Deutschland. “At Telefónica, we remain firmly committed to our goal of providing consumers, businesses and public administrations with the best possible access to digital technologies.”

For EWE, the partnership creates new flexibility in designing mobile communications offerings. In EWE’s marketing area, which encompasses both urban and rural regions, demand for high-performance mobile communications products can thus be met even more effectively in future.

Cooperation unlocks new potential in the business customer market

The cooperation also unlocks additional potential in the business customer sector. EWE has close ties with regional businesses, particularly in the north-west. Telefónica Deutschland complements this strength with technological solutions for modern enterprise networks. These include, prospectively, applications based on 5G network slicing, campus networks, SD-WAN connectivity and the Internet of Things (IoT). This enables companies to network production processes, connect sites flexibly or operate data-intensive applications reliably. Norbert Westfal, Spokesman for the Management Board of EWE TEL GmbH, emphasises: “By deciding to purchase mobile wholesale services on the Telefónica network, we are significantly improving our mobile offering. Our customers benefit from excellent network coverage, state-of-the-art 5G technology and new, attractive tariffs. At the same time, we are bringing our regional strength to bear in network expansion and, together with Telefónica, are actively shaping the digital infrastructure in the north-west.“

Through this partnership, both companies are strengthening their position in the German telecommunications market. The focus is on high-performance networks, innovative offerings and reliable coverage for consumers and businesses.
