From careless postings to digital bullying among peers - for many children and young people, the proper and safe use of the internet is far from natural. Not just on the occasion of the nationwide "Safer Internet Day 2023" O₂ Telefónica is showing ways to deal with digital media more consciously and confidently.

Rating agencies confirm O₂ Telefónica's successful commitment to sustainability in the areas of environment, social responsibility and good governance with very good ESG rankings. As of today, the company has been listed in the Bloomberg Gender Equality Index for the fourth year in a row. In recent weeks, the international Telefónica Group has already made it onto the CDP A list for the ninth time in a row. EcoVadis rewarded O₂ Telefónica with a "Gold" award. At Sustainalytics, the company achieved the best ESG risk score of all telecommunications companies in Germany. In addition, O₂ Telefónica received an "AA" ranking by MSCI and a "Prime B-" from ISS.

The O₂ brand will launch a new mobile service under the name O₂ Mobile on April 5, 2023.

O₂ Telefónica has submitted its expansion figures to the Federal Network Agency to meet the coverage requirements as of the cut-off date of December 31, 2022. The telecommunications provider has completed an impressive network expansion program over the past three years: since 2020, O₂ Telefónica has processed around 20,000 mobile sites to further improve the O₂ network and achieve the required coverage levels. The company considers the obligations to have been met - taking into account legal and factual circumstances. In the case of the 5G rollout, O₂ Telefónica has even far exceeded the required condition.

The Supervisory Board of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG has approved the early extension of the contracts of Management Board members Valentina Daiber, Chief Officer Legal & Corporate Affairs, Nicole Gerhardt, Chief Human Resources Officer, Alfons Lösing, Chief Partner & Wholesale Officer, and Markus Rolle, Chief Financial Officer, which expire in July 2023. The new contracts run until 2026.

O₂ Telefónica and Nokia make the upload of files and videos on the 5G network even faster. For the first time, the telecommunications provider and its technology partner have bundled two 5G frequencies to increase the maximum data rate when sending data over the mobile network. This so-called carrier aggregation technology is already used extensively in the 4G/LTE network.

Telefónica Germany, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and the Norwegian scale-up wheel.me work together on mobile robot solutions based on state-of-the-art 5G networking and edge computing. The partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect. A first practical study (PoC) demonstrates the performance of 5G campus networks and edge computing in the real-time orchestration of autonomously driving robotic wheels from wheel.me.

O₂ Telefónica is taking the next step in 21st century digital connectivity and is going to move its 5G core network in Germany to the cloud in the future. With its software-based 5G cloud core network, the telecommunications provider wants to deploy and make updates in the network even faster and provide new networking solutions for private and business customers.

The renowned connect network test awards the O₂ mobile network a "very good" rating for the third time in a row. The provider was able to record a significant plus of 20 points on its account. This means that the O₂ network has made the biggest leap forward in quality of all German network operators.

On Thursday, there were restrictions in telephony via 2G, 4G and fixed network in the period from about 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. due to a disrupted voice system at a network location. Customers of O₂ Telefónica have been able to make full phone calls again since late yesterday evening.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica is using innovative Cloud RAN technology from European network equipment supplier Nokia in its 5G network for the first time. As with Open RAN, Cloud RAN allows parts of the radio access network (RAN) to be virtualized, which makes it possible to separate hardware and software.

Telecommunications provider O₂ Telefónica is making much faster progress with the nationwide rollout of its 5G network than originally planned. The O₂ network now supplies 75 percent of the population in Germany with the 5G mobile standard. Currently, more than 18,000 5G antennas are transmitting on the o2 network.

In the major Smartphone Magazin network test, the O₂ mobile network secures the top rating of “Outstanding”. Thanks to a further improvement in network quality, O₂ now receives the highest rating in the network test for the first time, following the rating of “very good” last year.

As an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), O₂ Telefónica will in future equip every NR 1500 vacuum robot from Vorwerk subsidiary Nexaro with a Telefónica IoT SIM card. The connectivity solution from O₂ Telefónica is the prerequisite for intelligent real-time management of the autonomous vacuum robots in commercial properties.

The Technical University of Munich (TUM) is now conducting research on concrete applications via a 5G campus network set up by O₂ Telefónica. Until now, such vehicles have been restricted in their range of applications due to limited data connections and response times.
