Smartphone Magazin Network Test:O2 network receives top rating of “Outstanding”
In the major Smartphone Magazin network test, the O2 mobile network secures the top rating of “Outstanding”. Thanks to a further improvement in network quality, O2 now receives the highest rating in the network test for the first time, following the rating of “very good” last year. This strengthens O2's second place. O2 is only three points short of overall victory among the three German mobile providers. Through a focused 5G roll-out, the closing of white spots and other quality initiatives, O2 is continuously improving the network experience of its customers.

O2 network impresses with outstanding performance
The O2 mobile network secured the rating "Outstanding" in the big Smartphone Magazin network test.
The O2 network presents an excellent picture in the network test. Overall, the network scores 136 out of a possible 150 points (Deutsche Telekom “outstanding” with 139 points, O2 “outstanding” with 136 points, Vodafone “very good” with 130 points).
In the categories Upload (uploading files), Webpage (mobile access to Internet pages) and Call (mobile telephony), O2 takes the overall victory in each case. In many other categories, the network is on a par with the other providers.
For the Smartphone Magazin network test, the editorial team, together with the test specialist Dalmus Commercial Agency, extensively tested the network quality of the German mobile providers for two months. One focus was on network quality in rural areas. In total, the testers covered a distance of 12,000 kilometers and collected 420,000 test samples.
O2 network expansion makes enormous progress
With the new cell tower in Schwabmünchen-Birkach, O2 customers now surf the net with 4G and 5G.
O2 is pushing ahead with the expansion of its fast 5G network in cities and rural regions. The provider is making faster progress than planned: The original target of 50 percent 5G population coverage, which was to be achieved by the end of 2022, was already achieved by O2 in the summer of 2022 - six months earlier. By the end of 2025, O2 will cover the entire population in Germany with 5G.
At the same time, O2 is building new sites in previously underserved regions. Just recently, O2 put a new mobile site into operation in the district of Augsburg, thus closing the largest white spot in Bavaria to date. In addition, the operators are cooperating under so-called grey spot agreements by offering each other reciprocal access to network technology at up to 2,000 rural locations. O2 customers are thus benefiting from an ever better mobile network - at an excellent price-performance ratio.
