Telefónica Deutschland is expanding its core brand O2 from a mobile provider to a bundled service provider for the digital household. In the future, customers will be able to flexibly combine mobile plans with fixed-network, TV, and streaming services, as well as additional SIM cards or smartphones — and receive immediate monthly discounts in return. With this, the provider is establishing a new approach to bundled offers in the German mobile market. The “O2 Plus Bundles” launch on 10 June. “Converged offers in the telecommunications market have traditionally been designed with fixed-network products in mind. With O2, we are deliberately starting with mobile communications — the product that serves as the central gateway to digital life for many people. Thanks to the transparent and flexible structure of the O2 Plus Bundles, customers gain more freedom of choice, a better overview of their digital contracts, and a lower price as part of the package. In this way, we create real added value for them and for entire households. At the same time, we are strengthening the position of our core brand in a highly competitive market,” says Andreas Laukenmann, Chief Consumer Officer at Telefónica Deutschland.

A unique feature of the German mobile market is that O2 customers have six weeks after signing up for a mobile plan to select their add-on services — yet they receive the corresponding “Plus Bundle” discount on their plan starting from day one.

Just in time for the World Cup O2 TV with Netflix and Disney+ at no additional cost1)

With the upcoming World Cup in mind, new customers can take advantage of a particularly attractive “Plus Bundle” when they combine O2 TV Premium with one of the new O2 Mobile Plus plans: Thanks to the discounts, the comprehensive O2 entertainment package — including O2 TV as well as Netflix and Disney+ streaming—is effectively included at no additional cost.1)

Fixed-network as a “Plus”

“German consumers primarily associate O2 with mobile communications. Yet the brand has also been offering fixed-network products and entertainment for many years. With the O2 Plus bundles, we are moving away from the established practice of selling mobile plans primarily with smartphones and are making the diverse portfolio of our core brand more accessible to customers and households,” said Andreas Laukenmann. Landline services can also be flexibly integrated. New customers can sign up for an O2 Plus bundle combining a mobile and landline plan for a total of around 35 euros per month.2) Consumers benefit from affordable O2 landline connections almost everywhere. Through its infrastructure partners, O2 offers one of the highest levels of gigabit availability in the German landline market. O2 Mobile Plus plans can also be combined with additional SIM cards for partners or family members. O2 offers a bundle discount of between 10 and 25 euros per additional card on top of the “Plus Bundle” discount on the plan.3 In this way, the provider specifically targets multi-person households as a customer group.

O2 radically simplifies the structure of mobile plans for customers

O2’s Plus Bundles are based on a new, streamlined mobile portfolio. It consists of three data plans with 15, 50, and 150 gigabytes and the Grow Benefit4), which automatically increases the data allowance year after year at no extra charge. In addition, there are three unlimited plans with tiered speeds of 15, 100, and 300 Mbit/s.

The next step for O2 on the path to becoming the most customer-friendly provider

The new “Mobile with a Plus” product strategy is part of a series of initiatives — such as “Pay Stop”, the Grow Advantage4), the free installation service, and the O2 Satisfaction Guarantee — through which the O2 brand is underscoring its commitment to becoming the most customer-friendly provider in Germany.

The new O2 Mobile Plus plans5

  • O2 Mobile S with 15 GB of data (+ Grow Advantage4)) for €19.99 per month.
  • O2 Mobile M Plus with 50 GB of data (+ Grow Benefit4)) in combination with a paid add-on service for €14.99 per month.
  • O2 Mobile L Plus with 150 GB data allowance (+ Grow Benefit4)) in combination with a paid add-on service for €19.99 per month. Standard version O2 Mobile L for €34.99 per month.
  • O2 Mobile Unlimited S Special Plus with 15 Mbit/s in combination with a paid add-on service for €19.99 per month. Standard version O2 Mobile Unlimited S Special for €34.99 per month.
  • O2 Mobile Unlimited M Plus with 100 Mbit/s, combined with a paid add-on service for €24.99 per month. Standard version O2 Mobile Unlimited M for €39.99 per month.
  • O2 Mobile Unlimited L Plus with 300 Mbps in combination with a paid add-on service for €34.99 per month. Standard version O2 Mobile Unlimited L for €59.99 per month.

The “Plus Bundle” add-on services:

  • Internet@Home fixed-network plans from O2
  • O2 TV in two versions:
    • “O2 TV Premium” for €14.99 per month with a 24-month contract term. The package includes Netflix and Disney+ (both standard with ads) on a permanent basis, as well as 200 hours of online recording storage. It can be used both at home via Wi-Fi and on the go within the EU.
    • “O2 TV Premium Pro” for 24.99 euros per month with Netflix and Disney+ without ads.
  • Additional SIM cards for partners and family members
    • A highlight is two O2 Mobile M plans, each with 50 GB of data for a total of 29.98 euros per month.3)
  • Smartphones available with zero-euro financing upon request.
Existing O2 customers can switch to the O2 Plus bundles when signing up for a new product as part of a contract renewal.
