Our fixed and mobile networks form the backbone for the digital transformation of business and society. We take climate change seriously
The telecommunications industry has a significant role to play in achieving climate targets. We are very much aware of our responsibility and have set ourselves ambitious targets: We want to be climate-neutral by 2025 at the latest. So we’re taking a stand on sustainable action and are ahead of the curve in the German telecoms sector.
Our policy is also reflected on the customer and employee side: In our product portfolio, sustainable smartphones and accessories are here to stay; and with our key initiative “70% less travel”, we’re sending a clear signal that the environment is a priority and cutting business trips right back to the necessary minimum. We’re committed to responsible handling of our resources and rely on powerful but energy-efficient hardware. Our old office equipment is recycled in an environmentally responsible way and refurbished for reuse. While the way we work is anyway predominantly #DigitalByDefault, we are continuously replacing the use of paper with digital services in our customer dealings too.
We make a difference – together
We are constantly proving how strong we are as a team, whether in our cooperation in the workplace or when it comes to taking responsibility for shaping the future. We don’t want to grow at any price, we want to grow sustainably and do our bit for society. And we can only do that with a strong team spirit.
We are a team, regardless of where we work. The pandemic situation didn’t make it easy for us either at first: Personal interaction with colleagues across teams and departments is something we take for granted. Flat hierarchies and the open office concept enhance our open and agile approach and we value the interaction in dynamic meetings. But of course digitalisation makes our remote working so much easier and, thanks to convenient tools, we keep our team spirit alive and well - with innovative formats and events like “Virtual Coffee” or our “Digital O2 Tower Run”, where we clocked up steps for a good cause throughout Germany. Regular meetings with the management team on issues that affect us and to answer questions help bring us even closer together as a company. Because one thing is clear: We’re not in this alone. Our motto in these times of Covid is “virtually together, regardless”. Together, we can make a big difference – this applies not only to our company but also for a good cause. Social engagement is a key part of the way we see responsible-minded behaviour and is firmly anchored in our corporate culture. Within our Corporate Volunteering Programme, we have numerous opportunities to support social projects and initiatives. For example, you might want to get involved in the field of digital inclusion, as we aim to inspire everyone to join the digital world and boost their digital skills. Or you can volunteer for seasonal campaigns and get stuck in with Telefónica colleagues from all over the world on our annual International Volunteering Day, to make a lasting contribution to society and the environment.

Telefónica Germany wants to build on the findings from the new way of working during the exceptional circumstances caused by Covid-19 and anchor some positive changes for the future.
