Telefónica and its Foundation mobilise to help Morocco

  • Telefónica, in support of the Moroccan people, launches the urgent campaign #MovilizadosPorElTerremoto, by means of financial donations and offering free communication between the two countries.
  • The donations, promoted by Fundación Telefónica together with the Red Cross, will go towards health and first aid material to help the victims. All international calls and SMS sent from Spain to Morocco as well as roaming will be free from 9 to 17 September for Movistar and O2 customers.
Faced with the serious humanitarian crisis in Morocco as a result of the earthquake, the Telefónica Group is once again mobilising to help those affected by launching the urgent campaign #MovilizadosPorElTerremoto (Mobilised by the Earthquake). Through Fundación Telefónica and together with the Red Cross, financial donations have been activated financial donations which will be used for health and first aid material to help the victims. Moreover, in order to facilitate communications in the affected areas, all international calls and SMS sent from Spain to Morocco will be free of charge from 9 to 17 September. In addition, Movistar customers in Morocco will also have free roaming for voice, data and SMS for the same period of time. These measures apply to Movistar contract, prepaid and Telefónica Empresas, as well as O2. We are channelling all the generous support from the company and its employees so that the aid can reach those affected in our neighbouring country as quickly and effectively as possible.”

Free call minutes, financial aid and fundraising at O2 Telefónica in Germany

In Germany, customers of O2 Telefonica's ethno-brand Ortel Mobile will receive free minute allocations for communication to Morocco. O2 Telefónica's own brand for people with a migration background, is offering a free allocation of 200 minutes for calls to and in Morocco until 24 September. Costs accrued since September 9 can be refunded. Ortel has also commited 25,000 euros as emergency financial aid. As part of the “O2 Telefónica Run” of O2 Telefónica in Germany, which will start on 15 September, employees will collect kilometers and points for a good cause through sporting activities. In addition to the associations “Tafel Deutschland e.V.” and “wirmachenwelle e.V.”, the proceeds of the sports week will now also benefit the earthquake victims in Morocco.
