Faster 5G through frequency bundling: O2 Telefónica and Nokia use 5G carrier aggregation for upload for the first time
O2 Telefónica and Nokia make the upload of files and videos on the 5G network even faster. For the first time, the telecommunications provider and its technology partner have bundled two 5G frequencies to increase the maximum data rate when sending data over the mobile network. This so-called carrier aggregation technology is already used extensively in the 4G/LTE network.

Real-time applications over 5G campus network and edge computing: Telefónica Germany, Hewlett Packard Enterprise and wheel.me cooperate on mobile robot solutions
Telefónica Germany, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) and the Norwegian scale-up wheel.me work together on mobile robot solutions based on state-of-the-art 5G networking and edge computing. The partners have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect. A first practical study (PoC) demonstrates the performance of 5G campus networks and edge computing in the real-time orchestration of autonomously driving robotic wheels from wheel.me.

The renowned connect network test awards the O2 mobile network a "very good" rating for the third time in a row. The provider was able to record a significant plus of 20 points on its account. This means that the O2 network has made the biggest leap forward in quality of all German network operators.

Voice telephony disruptions resolved: O2 mobile network fully available
On Thursday, there were restrictions in telephony via 2G, 4G and fixed network in the period from about 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. due to a disrupted voice system at a network location. Customers of O2 Telefónica have been able to make full phone calls again since late yesterday evening.

Mobile data usage at Munich Game: Brady beats Bayern
What a spectacular game! Tens of thousands of American Football fans came to Munich last weekend to watch the first regular season game of the US Professional Football League in Germany. A look at the mobile data from the O2 Telefónica network shows: Fans came from all over Germany and many from the United States. According to the data, they are significantly younger and more digitally active than those who attend soccer matches.

Virtualization in the mobile access network: O2 Telefónica uses Nokia Cloud RAN technology in 5G network

5G rollout at record speed: O2 covers 75 percent of the population with 5G
Telecommunications provider O2 Telefónica is making much faster progress with the nationwide rollout of its 5G network than originally planned. The O2 network now supplies 75 percent of the population in Germany with the 5G mobile standard. Currently, more than 18,000 5G antennas are transmitting on the o2 network.

Expanded cooperation in the cable fibre network: O2 and Vodafone join forces to bring even more people into the gigabit age
Since the end of 2020, O2 has been implementing its own fixed broadband products on Vodafone Germany's cable fiber network on the basis of a wholesale agreement. At the time, the agreement was the first cable wholesale agreement in the German market and is currently exclusive to O2. As a result, the Telefónica brand reaches around 24 million households nationwide. This makes cable access a central access route for the company's "Internet for the home" offerings alongside VDSL, fiber optics and fixed-network replacement products based on mobile communications.

As the first German network operator, O2 / Telefónica has activated the first mini-radio cells with innovative Open RAN technology (ORAN) in Munich. In addition to the very well developed O2 network, this will provide all O2 customers with even more capacity and higher bandwidths at busy locations in the future. The installation of pure 5G Open RAN mini radio cells ("5G standalone") will follow later in the year.

New Year's Eve 2021/22: O2 network starts with data fireworks into 2022
The year 2022 starts directly with data fireworks at O2 / Telefónica Deutschland: In the first hour of the new year, customers sent more mobile data through the O2 network than ever before on New Year's Eve, with around 382,000 gigabytes. This represents an increase of 35 percent compared with the prior-year period (283,000 GB data volume). Traditionally, customers send many congratulations via instant messaging apps such as WhatsApp or via social media channels such as Instagram and Facebook, especially in the first hour of the new year. With a total of 13.5 million phone calls, more calls were also made in the hour after midnight than in the previous year.
