Experience more emotion and be closer to the action with the latest 5G technology:Handball top match SG Flensburg Handewitt vs. Füchse Berlin with Sky and O2 also as a 5G live stream
In cooperation with O2, Sky Sport will also present the top match in the german Liqui Moly Handball premier league between the SG Flensburg-Handewitt and Füchse Berlin on 10 November via O2 high-end 5G network. Thanks to flexible professional and Samsung smartphone cameras, the match will be followed up close on O2 super-fast 5G network and broadcast live on the Internet, among other things. In addition to the classic TV broadcast, the match will be available to all fans via stream on skysport.de and the Sky Sport YouTube channel. This means that the next European premiere is imminent: The latest 5G technology will be used for the top match. This will allow spectators to experience live handball in a particularly emotional way. The live broadcast is the first in Europe in a pure 5G network. After the successful 5G transmission last year, Sky Deutschland and O2 are making use of the diverse possibilities of the 5G mobile communications standard for an innovative sports production for the second time.
Alessandro Reitano, Senior Vice President Sport Production at Sky Deutschland: “After the successful first live broadcast last year, we are once again demonstrating the potential of using 5G in live sports with another end-to-end production. Together with our partner O2, we are bringing the handball action very close to the TV viewer in an unprecedented 5G transmission quality, allowing fans to be particularly immersed in the live action in the arena.”
Four 5G smartphones and four professional 5G broadcast cameras provide a completely new game experience: All scenes are transmitted from the Flens Arena by O2 high-capacity network using the latest 5G technology in combination with Sky's wireless broadcast technology. As a result, viewers at home screens experience live handball in higher quality and from many additional perspectives. They are thus closer to the action than ever before. And: Via the pure 5G network, the exclusive recordings reach the viewers in real time from the home of the SG Flensburg-Handewitt near the Danish border. The augmented reality app from Wayra start-up Eyecandylab “5G Gipfel AR” provides a special experience for viewers with additional information about the game, for example about the squad or background information about the players. The app is available for the Android and iOS platforms.
With the new edition of the “5G Summit”, Sky and O2 are already demonstrating today what could become the TV standard in the future: With the use of the latest 5G technology in production and transmission as well as cloud-based production processes, broadcasters will be able to offer their viewers 100 percent emotion directly from the sidelines with significantly reduced effort. A smooth 5G transmission is made possible by LiveU IP video technology in seamless interaction with Vizrt's production solution, so that fans can follow the game in convincing quality and almost completely without delays on skysport.de.
