Thorsten Dirks

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chairman of the Board of Directors Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG Thorsten Dirks is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG, a position he has held since October 2014. Previously, he was CEO of E-Plus Group, which is now part of Telefónica Deutschland. From 2011 until 2014, he was also a member of the board of Dutch telecommunications company KPN, responsible for its international mobile business. In July 2015, he was elected President of Germany‘s digital industry association Bitkom. His personal emphasis in that position is on digitizing the country‘s smaller and medium-sized companies, modernizing the education system and utilizing new technologies to improve the way people work. Thorsten Dirks joined E-Plus in 1996, where he spent several years as member of the board in charge of areas including innovation, networks and IT. He was mainly responsible for the company’s successful multi-brand strategy. Prior to joining E-Plus, he held functions at various companies in the telecommunications sector, including Orbitel and Vebacom. In 2009, he wrote a book about the development of the telecommunications industry („Ich, Du, Er, Sie, Es und Wir: Wie wir kommunizieren werden“, which translates to „I, You, He, She, It, and We: How we will communicate“). Thorsten Dirks studied electrical engineering and communications engineering at the University of Hamburg, graduating with a Master of Engineering. He was born in Hamburg in 1963, is married and has a son.

Rachel Empey

Chief Financial and Strategy Officer (CFO) Member of the Board of Directors Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG Rachel Empey is Chief Financial and Strategy Officer (CFO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG. She has been CFO since 2011 and additionally since October 2014 has taken on the company strategy. As CFO she steered the successful IPO of Telefónica Deutschland in October 2012 - one of the biggest listings in Germany in recent years. She also played a decisive role in the successful acquisition of E-Plus group. For many years, Rachel has held various finance and controlling leadership positions in the Telefónica group. From 2009 she was responsible for controlling at Telefónica in Germany and was one of those steering the company's strategy for the successful LTE frequency auction. Before this she was Group Controller at Telefónica Europe responsible for the financial management of the European entities as well as various leadership roles in the finance department at O2 in Great Britain. She started her career as an auditor at Ernst & Young and business analyst at Lucent Technologies. Rachel Empey was born in 1976 in Truro (UK) and holds a MA (Hons) in Mathematical Sciences from the University of Oxford.

Markus Haas

Chief Operating Officer (COO) Member of the Board of Directors Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG Markus Haas is Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG since October 2014 and responsible for the operative business of the company. Being a fully qualified lawyer, Markus Haas has been working for Telefónica in various management positions since 1998. In 2009 he was appointed to the executive board and since 2012 he is member of the board of directors of Telefónica Deutschland Holding AG, where he most recently steered the company strategy. In this position he was mainly responsible for the successful acquisition of E-Plus group. Previously he played significant roles in the acquisition and integration of HanseNet, the LTE spectrum auction and Telefónica Deutschland´s successful IPO. Under his conduct of negotiations Telefónica Deutschland entered commercially important strategic partnerships with Deutsche Telekom AG, Versatel GmbH and most recently Drillisch AG among others. Markus Haas started his career in the legal affairs and regulatory division at Telefónica in Germany in 1998 - at that time Viag Interkom - and subsequently worked as Executive Assistant of the CFO. Afterwards, he steered as Vice President the Corporate & Legal Affairs department with commercial responsibility for the roaming- and wholesale network-business. He received his admission as attorney in 1998. Markus Haas was born in Munich in 1972, is married and has two children.
