Telefónica Deutschland has won the SABRE Award EMEA. At the award ceremony yesterday in London, the company was honoured in the category telecommunications for the campaign “Empowering the people through debate on digitalisation”. With the BASECAMP the company drives forward the public debate about digitization in Germany with diverse activities and well covered by the media. As the largest mobile communications provider in Germany with 47.9 million connections, Telefónica Deutschland has set itself the aim of leading a substantive dialogue with the different interest groups. Telefónica attends to the different topics of digitization through the on-site debates as well as via digital and medial communication. This way, the company generates a broad debate in the media and among the public. The traditional media regularly takes on these impulses. Following the BASECAMP, several press officers appear in further discussion groups on digitization topics in Germany.

Telefónica BASECAMP: Centre of public debate

Right in the centre of Berlin and by consequence at the heart of digitization, the Telefónica BASECAMP is open to all as a setting for manifold discussions. It is a non-commercial public meeting point, a co-working space, venue, café and digital experience shop. In this setting digital natives enter into dialogue with entrepreneurs, politicians with the average consumer and journalists with the digital elite. In 2016 a total of 10,000 visitors came to join more than 200 events in the Telefónica BASECAMP. More than 350 articles in independent mass media covered the debates and, in addition, the BASECAMP generated a strong reach in the Social Web. Every other related hashtag became a trending topic on Twitter throughout Germany. This way, the substantive debates are continued via the social media. This shows the importance of the topics discussed for the public agenda in Germany. With the SABRE Award the New Yorker Holmes Group honours the excellent performance in developing brands, visibility and customer loyalty. SABRE stands for Superior Achievement in Branding, Reputation and Engagement. The international jury for this year’s award was made up of more than 40 leading personalities from marketing and PR. 2017 saw more than 2,400 applications. At last year’s SABRE Awards EMEA, Telefónica Deutschland was honoured as Company of the Year.
